Wimbledon Adopts Video Challenge System in 2025.

The Championships court with video review technology

Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in implementing video review systems.

Replay technology will make its debut at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.

Players will gain the option to question certain decisions made by the official, echoing the practice already in operation at both the US Open and the Aussie major.

This technology is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.

This step arrives only a year after the All England Club rolled out electronic line calling, which effectively ended the longstanding role of line judges.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Competitors cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the official to review other situations, including:

  • If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a ball made contact with an rival's racket or body on the way past.
  • Potential hindrance end of a rally.

Notably, there will be an unlimited number on the number of challenges a player can ask for.

Practical Application

An illustrative case took place in a recent tournament last week, where a top player used the video challenge against Jack Draper.

The British player admitted it was a difficult call for the official, but thought his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and determined the player was responsible for interference, granting the point to his opponent.

Growing Trend

Video reviews aren't exclusive to major tournaments. It has been in use at the US Open for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews implemented at all of its events.

Additional Innovations

A further innovation at The Championships this year involves the introduction of graphical cues on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.

This solves instances where the crowd have occasionally been uncertain whether a shot was in or out.

Finally, with precisely a century of days to go until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have further announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
